Musical Lecture: “POST-PUNK” | Nikolay Ovchinnikov

Even in 2025, gloomy young men and women with guitars keep playing the music that fits. Post-punk is everywhere — from Eurovision to the soundtracks of your favorite TV shows. Its legacy can be heard in everything from nu-metal to hip-hop. Let’s be honest: any post-punk gig at Laska V21 will draw a crowd.

But how did this happen? Why has post-punk remained one of the most relevant and popular forms of rock music? And what does that say about us?

We’ll talk about it at a lecture by music journalist and critic Kolya Ovchinnikov.

From Joy Division to Editors, from Petlya Nesterova to Petlya Pristrastiya — we’ll try to make it as accessible as possible, both for those who know the genre and those who want to dive in:
• the history of the genre;
• how it appeared in our part of the world;
• how the post-punk revival began in the 2000s;
• how the genre’s message has evolved;
• why post-punk is still insanely relevant in Eastern Europe and the Baltics;
• how post-punk helps make sense of the world in 2025.
